sony xperia - ‘sized for you’

Sony had seen that their audience were caught between wanting the latest technology in a smartphone and wanting one that wasn’t too cumbersome to carry around. Size had become something of an issue. So, the latest range of Xperia smartphones offered them a simple choice based on what size suited them best. Whether they chose the small, medium, or large version of the phone they wouldn’t be compromising when it came to the capabilities of the tech at their fingertips. However, to believe it, they’d need to see it.

To tie in with the TV campaign’s focus on ‘nature’ we sent one of our Sony Xperia photographers out into the Yorkshire Dales to give all three models a field test. He tested the camera and audio quality of each and we packaged this together in a Facebook Canvas post that challenged people to ‘Spot the difference’ and compare the results.

My role: Concept and copy

Agency: HeyHuman

Sony Xperia had found that their audience was stuck between not always wanting the largest of the ever-increasing phone sizes and not keeping up with the tech the larger phones offered. With this in mind, Xperia’s latest and greatest range of smartphones all boasted the same groundbreaking technology to make your world more WOW but in 3 sizes that felt much more tailored to you. Using Facebook canvas, we demonstrated that whichever size you chose, you weren’t compromising or downgrading. We gave all three models a field test and let the audience scrutinise the results themselves. Building from the TV’s Nature focused campaign, we sent one of our influencers out into the rugged Yorkshire Dales to see how the phones stacked up. The Canvas opened full screen on your phone and presented you with three experiments that opened the field test results up to scrutiny. Using the gyroscopic movement of your phone, each experimented invited you scroll across a panorama made up of 3 different phone shots as if holding a magnifying glass to the results.
